CVEC was awarded $943,715 in grant funds through the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI), according to an April 8 news release. Amherst County received just more than $127,000 and Bedford County $1,040,000 through the initiative grant to aid their ongoing efforts to bring broadband to underserved rural areas of the county.
Along with the initiative grant award, CVEC was awarded $71,500 from the Albemarle Broadband Authority.
The money will go toward pursuing broadband in Albemarle, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Louisa, and Nelson counties. According to the news release, Governor Ralph Northam announced
$4.9 million in grant funds was awarded to 11 of the 31 proposals received.
